706 Green Valley is an iconic building in the city, forever known as the “white box”. When approached by building ownership to update the building common space the goal was to not only update the interior common area; but to also celebrate the iconic architecture of the building. When starting the design of the interior space the large 5-story atrium was one of the largest design challenges. What is the best way to celebrate the volume of space along with the sharp angles of the buildings architecture, but not take away from the buildings iconic presence in the community? The solution became to celebrate the buildings architecture by installing nine 72-inch tall cigar pendants into the atrium. These pendants not only make the building glow at night, but also fill the atrium with soft curves to contrast the sharp edges of the architecture. Along with the large pendant lights, hexagon carpet tiles were installed in the elevator lobby to brighten up the buildings original white interior. New LED lighting, ceiling tiles and carpet planks were introduced into the corridors along with a simple pop of color. The carpet planks celebrate the linear lines of the building and bring a kiss of color into the space. Now the “white box” has become a glowing beacon for the city.
