Project Name: The Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology

This LEED-NC Gold certified project is a sustainable expansion of the University’s research and academic facilities within a 17,550 acre historical nature preserve.
The Owners goal was to create a new facility that absorbs its natural surroundings, educate those visiting, and provide a sustainable comfortable work environment for the staff.
Building orientation and integral glazing allowed for maximum daylight exposure. Interior glass/resin partitions with controlled shading devices are typical for all offices to allow ultimate daylight flexibility throughout.
Accent walls in the Commons Area feature reclaimed wood from nearby barns and storage buildings. Innovative materials are used throughout the building including products such as the carpet tile with high-recycled content, environmentally safe adhesives and paints, and rapidly renewable materials such as agri-fibers and soy-based products, and natural products such as cork rubber flooring used throughout the commons area.
