Meeting new friends, strengthing relationships and promoting new sponsorship of this good-sense measure to protect the public with plentiful information. The designers met with many House and Senat members and their staff. All Interior Designers are encouraged to attend this annual event to promote the passage of a Practice Act here in SC. Join the SC Interior Design Coalition (www.cidl.org.), become informed, and be there with your peers next year!

Summary of SC Design Day 2009

It was a great day in Columbia, SC on Tuesday March 24, as 45 professional interior designers, students and educators gathered for the Second Annual Design Day. Following an informative legislative training session, the highlight of the day was a visit by Speaker Pro Tempore Harry Cato. He explained the importance of getting to know your legislators and he encouraged everyone to contact their legislators and tell them the compelling story of interior design. The group was then introduced in both the House of Representatives and Senate Chambers. Every legislator’s office received an information package and a brief visit. The day concluded with a CEU lunch presentation on Healing Colors and Surfacing Materials for Healthcare. Our sincere thanks to DuPont, Carapace and Solid Surfaces for sponsoring our lunch and CEU.

Representative Joan Brady will be our bill sponsor in the House. Several representatives have agreed to co-sponsor the bill. For many months, the bill has been reviewed and revised based on input from all parties who have been willing to engage in discussion. Early in the legislative session, the bill was submitted to the House bill drafting department. Due to state budget challenges and negotiations, the bill is still with the drafting department, and will be introduced as soon as it is processed.

Thank to everyone who attended Design Day and for your commitment to our profession. Working together, we can raise the bar for Interior Design in South Carolina and help protect the citizens of our great state.
